TÍTULO
Revealing the star formation versus stellar distribution of submillimeter galaxies at high redshift
RESUMEN
I will discuss the results of a study aimed at uncovering the two-dimensional dust and stellar mass distributions of IR-bright submillimeter galaxies (SMGs) at z~2 in the COSMOS and GOODS-S and UDS fields, which have been observed at high spatial resolution with both HST and ALMA.
Through utilizing multi-band HST/WFC3 imaging, we are able to derive robust age- and extinction corrected stellar mass distributions, allowing us to go beyond the interpretation of SMG morphology based on optical light distributions alone. This provides us for the first time with a powerful combination to directly compare the spatial distribution of assembled stars and ongoing star formation on ~kpc scales of distant IR-luminous galaxies at high redshift.
I will also highlight a few results based on our efforts to exploit the publicly available ALMA archive of dust continuum observations in the COSMOS field to constrain the evolution of cold gas properties in massive star-forming galaxies with cosmic time up to redshift 6.
